FAQs and What You Need to Know

It’s very common to have questions when it comes to preparing for the day of your surgery. In an effort to make your time with us as easy and stress-free as possible, please review the following recommendations and requirements for the day of your procedure.

Contact your surgeon or physician prior to your surgery date if:

  • You have experienced any fluctuations in your health since your most recent visit to your physician and prior to the day of your scheduled procedure. This can include anything from a temperature, cough, rash, cold to any general feeling of ill health.
  • You are unsure of your scheduled time of arrival.
  • They are not already aware of any of the following conditions:
  • Any heart conditions, kidney or liver failure, diabetes, latex allergies
  • There is any chance you may be pregnant.
  • You have not already had the conversation with your physician or surgeon regarding what medications you take on a regular basis and which (if any) should be avoided on the day of surgery.

After midnight on the day of your surgery, please be sure and observe the following restrictions:

  • Undigested food in the stomach can cause complications that could result in the postponement of your procedure, so do not eat anything (including gum, mints or hard candy) after midnight on the day of your surgery.
  • Do not smoke after midnight the day of your surgery.

When it comes to the morning of your procedure, we ask that you adhere to the following recommendations for your comfort and ease:

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can accommodate a bandage, cast or any other type of dressing.
  • Take a bath or shower and brush your teeth.
  • Remove all makeup, jewelry, and contacts. For those of you that require contacts, please bring your contact case for use during your procedure.

There are a few things we ask that you please bring with you on the day of your procedure:

  • Please have a government issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport).
  • Please bring all insurance cards with you.
  • Please have with you a copy of your consent forms and an Advance Directive if you have one.
  • Please have your chosen form of payment with you, if required.
  • For those patients that require insulin, please bring the bottle of insulin and syringes with you.
  • Please limit the number of people who accompany you to the center for health protocols and spacing thresholds.
  • Please make sure you have a responsible adult to accompany you to the center, receive discharge instructions and drive you home. We also recommended that someone stays with you for the first 24 hours following your surgery.
